Wordsmithery March 2025

The poet tonight was Celia Gentles, a member of the Wirral Poetry Festival team. She is a poet and artist/illustrator who likes walking, gardening and watching wildlife documentaries. She takes her inspiration from these subjects when painting and writing about nature, sometimes nature’s darker side. Her favourite genre is magical realism. She loves working in the community with poetry and craft workshops, and enjoys singing in a local choir.

The songwriters tonight were the Merseyside/Irish folk duo The Folk Doctors comprising of tunesmith John Armstrong and lyricist Ultan Mulhern. Their collaboration began when they entered the Liverpool Acoustic Songwriting Challenge in 2016 and tonight they took to the stage playing songs from their fabulous album Silent Shores which has received overwhelmingly positive reviews.
