Born and raised in Merseyside, Paul Lafferty has always been deeply connected to the vibrant character of the region. His journey began as an apprentice carpenter on the docks, where he honed his skills before taking to the seas as a ship’s carpenter. Upon returning, he worked at Cammell Laird shipyard, contributing to the area’s rich maritime heritage.
Paul later pursued further education at Liverpool Polytechnic and went on to qualify as a social worker, dedicating many years to child protection and community mental health. As a manager of a large community mental health team, Paul saw firsthand the power of creativity in supporting wellbeing.
Inspired by these experiences, he turned to painting – initially as a therapeutic outlet for both staff and patients. Over time, his art became a personal passion, offering a unique perspective shaped by his life at sea, his time in the community, and his deep connection to the people of Merseyside.
