Kathryn Williams is a British multidisciplinary artist whose visual work spans intimate portraiture, mixed-media pieces, and small-scale studies that explore character, emotion, and the quiet details of everyday life. Working across matchboxes, watercolour, and print, her paintings reflect the same sensitivity, stillness, and storytelling that define her wider creative practice.
Although widely recognised as a Mercury Prize–nominated singer-songwriter with 17 albums released over the past 27 years, visual art has long been central to Kathryn’s creative identity. Her artwork features prominently throughout Anthology, the 20-CD, two-book career retrospective released by One Little Independent, and continues to evolve alongside her writing and musical projects.
Kathryn’s creative life extends far beyond music. She is a published novelist whose debut, The Ormering Tide, received critical acclaim, and she hosts the podcast Before the Light Goes Out, featured in the Guardian’s Top Ten music podcasts. She also teaches at the Arvon and Moniack Mhor writing foundations and collaborates internationally with artists including Paul Weller, Chris Difford, Ed Harcourt, Beth Nielsen Chapman, and Michele Stodart.
Named the only woman in the “Top Ten Greatest Liverpool Songwriters of All Time,” Kathryn brings the same lyrical sensitivity, observational detail, and emotional depth to her paintings as she does to her songs and stories. Her latest visual collection, Striking Features, showcases a new series of portrait works that highlight her distinctive artistic voice—intimate, thoughtful, and quietly powerful.
